HMS Resolution
South of Cape Horn

Driven
south of the Horn by gale force winds, June, 1773
Driven south by gale force winds, Captain
James Cook literally went where no man had dared before -
the icy threshold of Antarctica. Poor visibility and gigantic
icebergs, some miles in length, posed a constant threat and
ultimately forced the expedition to change its course.
The intrepid Cook, however, managed to map
and explore much of the outer reaches of the frozen land mass.
He was seeking to prove a theory that a large continent existed
in the deep southern latitudes. This was the second of Cook's
three legendary voyages of discovery.
