The Cook expedition rides a fine breeze and steers a course for the East end of Kaua'i (Atooi).

Captain Cook describes the scene as the ships were greeted by native canoes "They had three to six men each; and, on their approach, we were agreeably surprised to find that they spoke the language of Otaheite (Tahiti) and of the other islands we had lately visited."
