Outdraws all donations at
Kauai Historical Society Auction

Raymond A Massey's "Na Pali Voyagers," which depicts the historic 1837 charting expedition of Hanalei Bay was the highlight at this year's Kauai Historical Society fundraiser - The Royal Paina - at the Kauai Marriott, which drew a record crowd of 600 history buffs on Saturday, April 23, 2005.

The print donated by Ship Store Galleries and Raymond A Massey was put on the auction block and by the time the smoke from the bidding war had cleared it had netted the Historical Society $4500 - the highest single bid for any of the hundreds of items that were sold by the Society. The gallery also donated nearly $2000 in historical Kauai framed photographs.

The Na Pali print, which is the final image in the artist's Pacific Explorer Series, will be formally released this summer and the gallery is taking prepublication reservations now. Click here for the Na Pali Voyagers Prepublication Announcement....

To the Shores of Tripoli

America's foremost painter of maritime history, Raymond A. Massey, presents his most recent masterpiece.

Depicting historical events, and turning them into art, is a challenge that can only be met by extensive research. Numerous visits to maritime museums; thorough studies of the available documentation and occasional artifacts; when possible, visits to the actual site is invaluable.

These methods are are all too familiar to Raymond Massey, but it is only the beginning. The grueling painting process then takes over. To perfect his vision Massey spends hundreds of hours in his studio, solving problems pertaining to pigments, shading, under-work, drying times, sketches, perspective, etc.

Ship Store Galleries now proudly reveals the fruits of his labor. The painting will be reproduced on canvas and is currently being offered in pre-publication.
